The classic riddle takes on a high tech twist. Not only is it black and white, it often comes in color. And when it’s read, it can come to life and even jump off the page. If you haven’t guessed, we’re talking about QR codes and augmented reality.

APALA welcomes back Daniel Dejan for an exciting discussion on Quick Response (QR) codes, how they work, different applications and their growing importance in bridging integrated marketing and social media with print. He’ll also provide a quick look at the new emerging field of augmented reality and how print-based AR codes are currently being used in the areas of sales, marketing, retail and tourism.

By popular demand, Daniel returns to the West Coast and specifically, APALA. Daniel is the North American ETC (Education, Training and Consulting group) Print and Creative Manager for Sappi Fine Paper. As an award-winning creative director and production manager, Daniel is widely respected in the print communications industry and speaks at print, design and marketing events throughout North America.

At this meeting, experience live examples of augmented reality and QR Codes with your smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc.) or iPad. Don’t forget to download a QR reader for your device before the meeting, if you don’t already have one, from sites such as scanlife.com or beetagg.com .
